Bicycles are so damn hip these days that they’re infiltrating every aspect of culture. Here’s a great, quirky piece of up-cycling that takes disused bicycles parts and converts them into a set of beautiful coat hangers.
These were designed and made by Oliver Staiano, from Nottingham Trent University in the UK, as part of his final-year project. Each set of three includes a hanger made from part of a wheel, a tube from the frame, and the handlebar. Those sections are stripped, cleaned up, and then finished using high-quality wood. The hooks are made by bending spokes taken from the wheel.
So, I could moan that the shapes maybe aren’t quite right for most clothes that you’re going to hang on them. But that would be missing the point: they’re just cool, dammit.
The only downside is the price. Each set of three is custom-made by Staiano so — while you can buy them from Co-oproduct — they will set you back an eye-watering $US320.
