Acer’s First Ivy Bridge Computers Are… Desktops?

Hey! Intel’s new Ivy Bridge processors are here! As such, there are some new Ivy Bridge-equipped machines from Acer, which means they’ll be within financial reach for many. But I hope you like desktop PCs, because that’s all you’re getting for now.

Anything Ivy Bridge is better than no Ivy Bridge at all, but has anyone purchased a mini-tower since 2009 who doesn’t work in a professional/creative industry? OK sure, there are the gamers, but those with any self-respect build their own computers. Can these machines escape their niche fate?

Either way, the Acer Predator is the (relative) star of this show, with an Intel Core i7 processor running at 3.4GHz, 16GB of RAM, a 2TB hard drive and an NVIDIA GT630 graphics card for $US1200. Not shabby, I suppose.

Gateway, another brand Acer owns, will also be releasing a pair of Ivy Bridge machines: the DX4860-UR14P and FX machines that are also Ivy Bridge-equipped and also desktop machines. These machines feature Core series processors, integrated Intel graphics, and in the case of the DX, 6GB of RAM. These machines will start at $US700. Expect to see all these products in stores next week. [Acer]
