Yamaha, Why Do We Need A Singing Keyboard?

A decade ago, Yamaha embarked on ambitious project to create software that could sing. The Vocaloid actually sort of worked and has even spawned some real music. But now, for some inexplicable reason, Yamaha jammed the technology into an actual physical instrument. Watching someone play the Vocaloid Keyboard will make your brain hurt.

The Vocaloid keyboard is actually two keyboards that, when combined, make the “singing synthesiser” come to life. But for now, it’s only programmed for Japanese vocals. Your left hand triggers the syllables and your right hand controls pitch. As you can see from the video above, this thing is really hard to play, and it’s hard to imagine a good reason to use it for live performances. [DigInfo via Geeky Gadgets]
