Since it’s launch, there’s been talk about the new iPad running hot. Well, here’s some proof: these images show the outer case gets around 5C warmer than its predecessor.
The guys at tweakers.net have levelled a thermal camera at both the new iPad and an iPad 2. The result? The exterior of the new tablet reaches 33.6C, compared to 28.3C for the iPad 2.
There are two things to note. Firstly, 5.3C isn’t much, but it is certainly noticeable in the hand. Second, you can notice the warmer corner that has been reported by some users — though it doesn’t look like this unit has as bad a problem as some users have reported, and it actually looks a bigger problem on the cooler iPad 2. Update: AllThingsD reports Apple’s predictably salty response to claims that the new iPad might be running hotter than the iPad 2.

It seems the new iPad’s temperature is a touchy subject. Customers are merely expressing concerns about the product. A simple, “contact AppleCare if you have any problems” would have sufficed.
