WSJ: Google Planning AirPlay Killer

According to the usual band of invisible anonymous sources, the Wall Street Journal says Google’s cooking up its own AirPlay rival. Are they? Probably!

The rumour makes sense: with Android, Google has tablet and phone offerings, just like Apple, along with its own music store, just like Apple. What they lack is a way of beaming all of that music to speakers and boxes around your house — which Apple very much has, and makes playing music on iOS a hell of a lot of fun.

According to the WSJ, Google has a single “entertainment system” in mind, which would download and sling songs to Google-made speakers. So, something along the lines of an Apple TV streaming puck? According to anonymous sources, the “entertainment system” will be out “later this year”. So we’ll “wait until then” to “see if it happens”, but “don’t be surprised if it does”. [WSJ]

Would be good. I wonder if these guys (or Apple for that matter) have ever thought of hoovering up Sonos… They seem to have a great streaming solution. Maybe long term it just wasn’t viable?

Sambo, yes Apple has something first, and now Google want to do something thats the same, for shame, buddy, you work for a tech website, have you totally forgotten how things worked before apple became the umbilical cord of your digital existence?

Will this be as good as Apple, maybe… probably not.\

what what will likey draw people to it, the entire likelyhood that you wont need to the same orchid for every single peice of equipment in your house.

This proposal from Google and basing it through Android will give people the opportunity for potential customers to set up their house how ever they see fit buying what ever brand equipment they see fit for what ever reason, price/funtion

Apple are going to put out a TV soon, it wont be long before you will be forced to buy everything Apple, thats good business from them, though I dont see how it aids innovation.

You blokes need to realise that not everyone in the world is in a position to buy into the apple ecosystem to experience it to the full effect.
