World’s Highest Skyscraper Will Be 1050m High

Forget about the 1km high Kingdom Tower. There will be a building higher than that. This is it, the Azerbaijan Tower. It will be 50m higher, have 189 floors and looks like a beautifully shiny glass, steel and concrete monolith of crap.

The Azerbaijan Tower will be built on the Khazar Islands, an artificial archipelago that is being built on the coast of the Caspian Sea off Garadag, southwest of Bakou, the capital of the country.

The Khazar Islands will be a $US100 billion city composed by 41 artificial islands. They will cover a 2000-hectare surface. According to the plan, one million people will live in this new “city”.

The developer — some Haji Ibrahim Nehramli, president of the Avesta Group of Companies — is already negotiating with the companies that built the Burj Khalifa. Apparently, construction of the tower will start in 2015. It will be finished around 2019, with a total price tag of $US2 billion.

So yes, this is going to be real. Hell exists and it’s surfacing in the Caspian Sea. [News.az via Architizer]

A country going broke doesn’t mean all the private entities there are too.

This is not Dubai but Baku in Azerbaijan in between Iran and Russia. It is also oil rich and supplies most of Russia and eastern Europe.

World’s Highest Skyscraper Will Be This 1050km Turd

Turd! really? I realise that the arabs are spending rediculous amounts of money on this sort of thing, and in actuality I don’t necessarily agree with it being built for the sake of it. I really don’t understand why you deride it at all?

1050km would put it in the exosphere.

the ISS is 410km high so this structure would be higher then the ISS.

After hearing about how much maintenance needs to go into modern buildings, I wonder whether any of these amazing, huge structures will even be around in 100 years, much less 200. Meanwhile the Great Pyramid shrugs off another century…

although if you are building it yourself you can make it higher than 2.3m presumably. That and put it somewhere not prone to tsunamis and the like.

Caspian sea is 28 metres below sea-level, that gives them a decent head start……(jk)
Not linked to other oceans, therefore not to be affected by a general rise in sealevels (untill some drongo puts a canal through from Iran….)

Also Azerjbainanis are still (Hisorical)Camel Jocks… And they have loads of Oil, but they take umbrage at being called Arabs (as do Persians)

This part of Asia was the Birthplace of Tall buildings and Civilisation as we know it.. (Along the Euphrates) (They are Arabs there) …. So the tall building may be coming home to roost…. (After being in the Arabian Peninsular for a while)

Seriously, if I were to build a new multi billion dollar tower, I’d want to go at least TWICE as tall as the last one or nothing. 50m is piddly and will be beaten within a year or two. 2000m, now that’s a man-tower
