Flight Global’s Jon Ostrower posted videos of three different kinds of aeroplane approaches and landings. The first one is the most spectacular, as a Airbus A320 approaches Bhutan’s airport zooming, close to 3000m mountains. Fast forward to 5:39.
They plane warns “1000 feet” (300m) but they still can’t see the damn airport strip. It’s like Top Gun’s canyon run but with a 30m wide aeroplane that weights about 58,500kg and carries 120 passengers. No pressure! [FlightBlogger]

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 2:24 PMVery interesting runway, they basically had to turn onto final almost on top of the threshold.
There is also some interesting take-off’s out there, my favourite being the Vodka Burner taking off from YSCB. I love the quote “You can lift it up any time you like.” and “We have Smirdoff”.

Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 3:27 AMHe had plenty of runway when he came to a slow roll, the video then cuts as he’s still taxi’ing so I don’t think he used what you think he used to slow down.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 11:17 PMWho’s the retard?? The Guy who put the Airstrip in the longest flat spot in the Kingdom?? The Pilot, who was following the Procedure Landing…
None ever said flying a routine course was exciting… it is Just one Procedure after another, Computers are better at that than People, and the Computer doesn’t have the need for a Thrill to keep awake….
That is probably only really interesting the first time in (or doing an Instrument approach with Fog to ground level, that would be more like kakkingyerdaks (is it double k??) ), after that its oh no we did this yesterday…. (Then let the Autopilot take it all the way in…)
The Joys of Flying for a living, different landing places.
