Hey babe, we used to make each other miserable, but it’s been a year, so now we won’t anymore, right? No, says scientific research. A new study from the University of Kansas confirms what we all knew anyway.
It’s a lot easier to slip back into an old relationship in the age of Facebook — and a lot more alluring. Whereas, in days of yore, an ex would have faded into the mists of time, now you’re given daily reminders of how hot and funny and successful they are. And look, you’ve got all of those photos tagged together — remember the good times? Maybe I’ll just poke her… Or send her a text. Or wait for the next time she’s on Gchat.
The multitude of ways to get back in touch just accelerates a crash course towards expired relationship milk. And yes, it’s a bad idea, reports MedicalXpress:
Findings showed that couples in a cyclical relationship tended to be more impulsive about major relationship transitions — like moving in together, buying a pet together or having a child together — than those not in a cyclical relationship. As a result, the couples in cyclical relationships tended to be less satisfied with their partner; had worse communication; made more decisions that negatively affected the relationship; had lower self-esteem; and had a higher uncertainty about their future together.
