RIM Firms Up Plans For Playbook OS 2.0

The long, long wait for Blackberry Playbook OS 2.0 — complete with the promise of Android app integration — is nearly over, with RIM putting a firm deadline on developers who want their Android Apps integrated into Blackberry App World.

In a posting on the Blackberry Developer’s Blog, James (presumably James Dreher, Blackberry’s inhouse Android guru) from the Blackberry Developer Relations Team exhorts anyone with an interest in porting their Android apps to PlayBook to get their coding hats on, with a note that

In order to ensure that your packaged and signed Android app is available in the BlackBerry App World™ storefront for the release of BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, be sure to have your app submitted by Monday, February 6th, 2012.

One of the other more interesting notes is that it’s “strongly recommended” that any application submitted should have all references to Android removed from the App and its description. There’s still nothing firm on the exact release date beyond the promise of “February”, but with the cutoff for new Apps being so close, it’s looking like it could be sooner rather than later.
