Fuel efficiency, noise reduction and looking like they could hide Batman are obviously high on NASA’s priority list.
Qantas is having its woes today with its fleet of A380s, but perhaps it should be looking far forward in the way that NASA is. NASA’s seeking to find cleaner and greener ways to fly, and is working with the giants of the airplane industry to come up with new concepts; while many of these may never fly or indeed get beyond the concept rendering stage, they’re fascinating to look at in their own right.

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 4:55 PMThey (aerospace) publish images like these every now and then. They look interesting but by and large they are just pie in the sky concepts that if they actually get acted on it, will be when we’re all too old to care!

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 9:46 PMThe jointed wing design concept was my aerodynamics thesis back in the day. There is quite a lot of potential in it with massively reduced drag, double the range and structural integrity. Nice to see someone taking another look.
