Lunchtime Deal: Crucial 128 GB SSD $US177.99

Gizmodo AU

SSDs represent an easy way to add some oomph to your computing experience, but they’re still in the relatively high priced zone, especially on a per GB basis. We’ve highlighted cheap SSDs recently, and Amazon’s currently in that game too selling Crucial’s SSD ranges for a fair price; at current exchange rates this 128GB SSD would cost around $165. I hope that SSD get to the same price as a HDD would be so much better but are just way to expensive.

      I’ve not seen this. amazon defaults to Au$ for me and this showed up at just over Au$170, which is OK. They were even going to let me buy it, which is unusual for tech stuff.

    I’m tempted to hit that deal up actually. I’ve been keen to try out a Windows 8 beta installation but didn’t want to have to mess up my current drive.

    This drive ranks in at 70 on Passmarks benchmarking list

      I’ve been doing a bit of rooting around, and it appears that the OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD actually out-performs this Crucial drive, and is available in Australia from pccasegear for just $169 (+ $12 postage).

      Crucial M4 128Gb:
      passmark score = 2,077 (higher is better)
      rank = 70 (lower is better)
      price = ~AUD$180

      OCZ Agility 3 120GB;
      passmark score = 2,256
      Rank = 59
      Price = AUD$181

      Think I’ll grab the OCZ Agility 3 instead.

        and there’s also the Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SSD from pccasegear for $185 (+$12 postage)

        passmark score = 2,439
        Rank = 48
        Price = AUD$185 + $12 postage

        All the drives I’ve listed have a 3 year warranty.

    After some reading up on the pros and cons of the different SSD’s the Crucial unit was clearly the recommended way to go. I just placed an order. Below is the exchange rate offered by Amazon, at the time

    Applicable Exchange Rate:
    1 USD = 0.9637770326 AUD
    (includes all fees and charges)

    Actual Exchange Rate at time of the transaction:
    1USD = 0.9331 AUD
