Desktop PCs; the functional workhorses of the PC world. Sure, they’re not ultrabooks, but they are functional, and at the lower-budget (but decent value) end of the scale sits Aldi’s latest desktop offer; an AMD A8-3820 processor, 4GB RAM, 1TB hard drive and Windows Home Premium 64 Bit for $499. Gus over at Lifehacker’s done the analysis of the deal, which seems fair but not spectacular. [Aldi via Ozbargain]

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 12:14 PMI bought a Medion machine from Aldi a few years ago and it was great. They have a support set-up here in Australia with a 1800 number and people who are really helpful. I wouldn’t hesitate to get another one if the need ever arises.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 7:38 PMGot one for the wife. Running dual 23 Inch screens and so far so good. If it is any help straight out of the box it got the following windows score;
Processor 7.3
Ram 5.9 (Ouch)
Graphics 5.9
Hard disc drive 5.9.
Only has two ram slots. I took the two ram sticks out and stuck two 4 gig sticks in $75. Ram is now 7.3. Wife does lots of photo shop and video editing as a hobby … the improvement was noticeable. New video card in a year or two this machine will last 3 + years! Just like the last few from Aldi.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 8:15 PMI think this is the same computer I got from Aldi last year for $599.
It’s a great machine for the price. At the time I couldn’t have built it for that price, let alone got Windows 7. Comes with a Win7 disc and a recovery partition preinstalled.
USB 3 is a nice addition you don’t often see at this price too.
Not sure if it’s still the same deal, but when I got mine it had a 2 year warranty.
@Boomzzilla – agreed. Shame about the graphics.
