Have You Ever Unlocked Any Of These Computing Achievements?

Even if you don’t work in the IT department, you probably have unlocked or help unlock some of these achievements, whether it’s the “Have you tried to restart?” or “The Network is down.” We all have been there.

You can get the complete list at Evil Routers.

I remember when “The Problem Is Sitting In Front Of The Computer” was known as PEBKAC…

      WTF?

“The Problem Is Sitting In Front Of The Computer” is AKA PICNIC, also Chair-to-keyboard interface problem.

I have had every single one of these situations. My absolute favourite is “While you’re here…”

oh damn I think I have nearly all those achievements….

We have a fair few ID 10 T problems as well.

PEBCAK has been around for years though

If you’ve worked in IT support (it doesnt sound like you have), PEBKAC stands for: Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair. Ie, its pointing to the user (or rather their stupidity in most cases) as the root of the issue.

My Dad’s favourite saying in the Defence force was “It’s a short circuit on the front panel earth”

        Is is a silicon-based problem, or a carbon-based problem?

The chair to the keyboard interface problem, I like that, this now enters my vocabulary as a description for my lovely wife who is much more talented than me & earns heaps more money, but unfortunately is not good with computers. I love her.

The only one of those I don’t have is “voices from beyond the grave”.

I received a “can you see this” email once. I replied “No I can’t” Came back: “What about this one”? I wrote back: “No; try using CAPS LOCK”. Didn’t get a reply. True story.

a fun game with that is just setting an OOO reply/ Rule to say
“The email you have sent has not been received.
Please restart your computer and try again”

Only took 4 trys before I got a phone call saying their email was broken :)

I have asked people to write down this special error code:
    ID-10-T. It spells IDIOT.

Useful when they are particularly painful users.

Seriously, who put this together? Couldn’t even be bothered checking to see if the images had been chopped & were missing parts of words?

WTF?: you mean “Problem In Chair, Not In Computer”.

“Good Morning, Could you…” starts at reception and lasts until lunch. It’s why I now ge to work before 8 and before anyone else can distract me from my actual work.

All except “voices from the grave” and all while I was doing my traineeship! What I hated most was the flood of phone calls to tell us they’d gotten a message saying a server was offline and they just wanted to make sure we knew about it. Yeah thanks, WE KNOW ALREADY! (Bloody Netware grrrr)

Yeah that’s teachers for you. I managed to get all except “voices from the grave” during the traineeship days as well.

That broadcast message could have been disabled. Netware was a real trooper.
