Cheap Solar Charger Tops Off One Battery At A Time

I lack the patience to wait around for the sun to charge my gadgets, but for $US14 Nokero’s single AA solar charger looks like the easiest way to ensure you’ve always got a backup battery ready for remotes and flashlights.

The design is as simple as it gets. You just slap a AA in the compartment in the back, and then set it out in the sun. In just a couple of hours you’re promised a freshly charged battery.

Since they recommend direct sunlight for best results (instead of filtered through a window) the Nokero C110 is also weatherproof, so it should be able to shrug off a downpour or flurry. And it even comes with an 800mAh NiMH battery, sweetening the deal. [Nokero via core77]

Awesome but I don’t understand why not two. Everything requires 2 aa batteries.

For that matter, why don’t they just make a single battery the size of 2 aas?

^ That would double the charge time – or you’d need a panel twice as big.

For the record 800mAh is TINY for a AA battery. Charging a good battery (say an Eneloop AA – 2000mAh) would take 3 x as long, and cook your battery to death while it sits out in the sun.

    Olearymo.

Just buy two chargers. That’ll do it.
