Barbie Gets An LCD Upgrade

Barbie has held many jobs, reflecting the aspirations of kids who dream of being dolphin trainers or architects. But what about kids who hope for cybernetic upgrades like LCD displays in their chest? Well there’s a Barbie for that now too.

This isn’t the first time the multi-talented doll has had a built-in camera. The Barbie Video Girl from a few years ago claimed that distinction. But this new model, the Barbie Photo Fashion (set to be officially unveiled at the upcoming New York Toy Fair) moves the now larger LCD display to the doll’s chest and bumps the camera’s resolution to five megapixels.

Kids will also be able to play around with 15 different photo effects before dumping their shots to a PC via a USB port located on Barbie’s lower back. Which, interestingly enough, is the very same place I have a tattoo of a mini USB port. I’m sure the $US50 package will include other doll-oriented accessories too, like maybe a miniature photographer’s bill of rights, so when she’s taking pictures she’s not stopped and harassed by G.I. Joe. [Chip Chick via Engadget]
