Apple has recently integrated its Genius recommendation system, already an iTunes staple, into the Apple TV environment via a silent update. The service will be available for both episodic content as well as movies, based on your previous content purchases. It’s accessible from the new Genius menu option for the 4.2 million or so households that have purchased the Apple TV so far. [Apple Insider]

So these are 4.2 mill in the US then? That’s… 1.8% of the population there? Just a very rough estimate. And yet Gizmodo always goes on about “Apple TV”.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 7:37 PMI think half the problem is hardly any retail stores demonstrate them. If you see it in action, preferably by someone who knows the product, it’s a pretty amazing little box of tricks,
With TV shows, some way cheaper than DVD equivalents (I.e. The Slap $20 on iTunes, $40 on DVD) I find it a much more civilized way to watch what I want, when I want.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 4:20 PMNice troll, I own two (1st Gen and 2nd Gen) I know plenty of people that bought a first gen one simply because it’s easier to rent movies on that when they have broadband 20kms out of town rather than drive to one of those video store thingys :P

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 4:56 PMIt’s not a troll, you are honestly the very first person who I have seen, online or off, who’s openly said that he has one.

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 7:46 AMWe have three in our house. Two bedrooms and the lounge room. Amazing devices, although will be even better once 1080p is supported… and they fix a few connection issues..

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 6:50 PMI have two ATV2 and had a ATV1.
EVERY person that comes to my house says “Wow, thats great! How much are they?”. Every one that i know that has bought one thinks they are awesome, any music/movie/TV show on your iPhone/computers/iPad can be wirelessly streamed to your TV and 5.1 home theatre, with one button click.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 7:32 PMBetween my partners household, and my own, we have 4 AppleTV 2′s. I know of two other people in my small rural town that bought them after seeing mine in action.
I love it. It’s reliable (unlike the T-Box), uses hardly any power, and does a host of things aside from play movies. The recent addition of TV shows in Australia means I no longer have to sit through hours of adverts. Combine it with a Mac and iPad, enable home sharing, and it’s a wonderful setup that anyone can use.
For $129, and if you don’t have any problems with iTunes (people love to hate it for whatever reason) I can’t recommend them highly enough.
Being able to rent a movie in the lounge for the kids, and then send them packing to their bedroom to continue watching it is a great feature :)
