Aluminium Speaker Dock Looks Right At Home Under Your iMac

Another day, another iOS device dock designed to compensate for their unimpressive built-in speakers. Today it’s Philips with its elongated DS6100 featuring an aluminium housing that’s designed to perfectly complement your iMac.

A pair of neodymium speakers with 20W of total power should considerably outperform the speaker on your iPhone or iPod, or you can use it boost your iMac’s speakers when connected to its AUX-in port. It will unfortunately occupy another outlet on your computer’s power bar, but that also means your iPhone or iPod will stay charged while they’re docked.

The aluminium housing that Philips has chosen looks quite lovely on its own. But its design cues also make it perfectly blend in with your iMac. The only catch is that aluminium isn’t as easy to mass produce as plastic, so when it’s available come May the DS6100 will include a hefty $US180 price tag. [Philips (PDF) via ChipChick]
