Welcome To Another Wonderful CES

Awwww yeah, it’s that time of year again. The Consumer Electronics Show, where we storm Las Vegas and see if there is anything worth writing about. We squeeze into fart-smelling rooms with hundreds of other tech journalists to hear about “vision” and “the future”. This year, we’ll probably also be hearing a lot about ultrabooks.

You’ve probably heard your favourite tech journalists bitching about CES. How they don’t want to go. How nothing here is ever that great anymore. How Apple will probably do something more newsworthy without even leaving Cupertino. Could be. Or maybe an upstart company will steal the show with an amazing that nobody expects. Like a few years ago when Palm released the Pre. Or like when Panasonic released its first monstrous, 100-plus-inch TV. And then did it again.

And it’s not just the gadgets. It’s rare that so much of the gadget world is in one place. From unwashed writers like us to genius engineers and visionary (yeah, sometimes it’s OK to use that word…) product developers who try to prognosticate what you don’t even know you want yet.

The truth is, as much as we bitch about this show, it’s a pretty awesome event. And we’re pretty lucky to be here. After all, any tech journalist who can’t enjoy being closely surrounded by every gadget imaginable should probably seek other employment. We look forward finding something extraordinary for you. And you better believe we will.
