Watch Gizmodo Australia Jump 108 Floors (260m) Off The Stratosphere Tower In Las Vegas

Gizmodo AU

And by Giz AU I mean Ben Dunlop, the winner of our competition to help Giz cover the Consumer Electronics Show. Hat-tip to you and your testicular fortitude Ben, and thanks for this great video shot using a handheld Contour camera. Was fun having you in Vegas with us!

Ben said the jump package he got (which included use of the camera) cost about $US150. You can find out more info on the Stratosphere at SkyJumpLasVegas.

It’s not really a bungie, but more of a glide downwards.

Safer than a bungie. Bungies can cause retinal detachment when they rebound.

Honestly, Stratosphere’s 3 amusement park rides on top of the building are much, much scarier. You’ve got your choice of being dangled off the building and spun round at high speed, being shot off the edge of the building and down a ramp repeatedly, or a rollercoster that includes sections that don’t seem to be attached to anything.

After you’ve tried those, the SkyJump is actually kind of relaxing. It’s quiet, there’s no one else around, and about half of it is more like floating than falling.

Still, chops to you, Ben, for voluntarily throwing yourself off the side of a skyscraper. The few, the proud, the slightly crazy.

Unfortunately the roller coaster has been gone for years now. When I was there last year they had the “shot” on the top (which was kinda scary compared to the Batwing since its so damn rough), the tippy “coaster” you mentioned and the spinning claw over the edge. My wife chickened out on the claw but IMHO it was the best of the bunch.

The drop was still being built them so didn’t get to try that. It might be “slow and relaxing” but that doesn’t help one little bit if your scared of heights!!
