Video: Melbourne Car Park’s Amazing Graffiti Art

Gizmodo AU

Project Melbourne Underground at Emerald House is fast becoming Australia’s largest private street art project. Over the next few weeks, walls over more than 800 square metres of space will be sprayed and stencilled by around 90 artists – from around Australia and from New York, Paris and Amsterdam.

Personally, I love street art and I’d love to get to South Melbourne to check this out. Even if it’s not your thing (which makes me wonder why you clicked on this story), I’m sure you can appreciate the positive nature of the workshops: showcasing talent in a productive, legal way. Great stuff. [12ozProphet]

This is certainly a foot forward for Australian Graff ;)… sydney needs to put up more legal walls for the kids to express them selves on, rather than doing the opposite and taking them down.

Some “kid” tagged my wall (pretty sure it was a kid, saw the same paint on a fence in a long line that suggests it was done on skateboard). It’s an absolute pain to get off porous surfaces; I’d gladly kick him in the nuts for his efforts.

Ps. tagging and graffiti are 2 totally different things… ie 99.9% of taggers are little kids with no idea and no respect-even for legit graffiti

Wow, I love that someone on Giz posted an article about Australian street art!!

It’s closed, so you can’t go check it out as its in progress, but we hear rumour that it will be open for viewing when its finished.

If you guys are interested in this kind of thing down here in Oz, we run a website called Invurt.com that follows it all – we’re dedicated gizmodo readers and its absolutely awesome to see this stuff on here!

After an epic effort by Sirum and Esky over the past six months and some extraordinary work by many artists over the past three weeks the project is close to complete. It will be open in February -stay tuned
