The last time you opened your oven was probably pretty dull. You pulled the handle, you stuck something in, you waited for it to cook. Maybe you enjoyed it. But did it slide vertically out of your counter? Probably not.
This “hidden” oven by fancy schmancy Italian appliance firm Fulgor saves counter space because it’s part of the counter, remaining retracted until you activate it with a touch button press. From there, three cooking racks pop up and slide back down at your command. The combination of electronic touch controls and transforming elevator action is pretty rad, but I do wonder — won’t you miss out on eyeballing your food as it cooks? Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 9:17 AMEven more so, with a regular oven, you can feel the heat from a decent distance, touching the door would burn you, how useful is it having a part of the bench you cant touch while the oven is in use, at least when its below the hot plates you don’t lose any real estate.
Also opening the oven would let a lot more heat escape than a side loading oven (hot air rises).
So there are 3 major flaws in the first 30 seconds of being introduced to a product. I’d say this is a swing and a miss.

Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 10:30 AMYou guys have never cleaned an oven? That’s the main concern for me – heat may rise, but fatty oily grease and mess usually follows the laws of gravity, and they go down. I’d hope there was an access door with a seemless smooth bottom. Even so, cleaning the runners would be an absolute pain in the ass.
I don’t think the heat on top would be a problem, insulation is pretty good in most cooking elements, most oven doors you can touch the glass. I’d say they’ve got it fairly well sorted.

Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 12:32 PM“saves counter space because it’s part of the counter” Umm so where is the induction stove top kept them? In a cupboard under the sink to save more counter space?

Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 5:21 PMOn the whole “saves counter space because it’s part of the counter”
I don’t see how this saves any counter space what so ever. You don’t have to have a stove top over an oven, so a conventional “front” oven takes up absolutely no counter space at any point in the cooking procedure, ever… It’s not like you get extra storage space on the front like shelves or drawers or anything either.
Sounds like an expensive gimmick to me, might be worth it for people who can’t/don’t want to bend over to use a conventional oven maybe…
