You may think that this image recently posted on Reddit is a 3D rendering or some Photoshop trickery, but it’s a real photo. A reflection of a world map through a water drop.
It was taken by Markus Reugels, who is an expert on capturing liquids in an awesome way, using a special rig created by himself. He spends weeks in creating images like these, taking about five hundred pictures before obtaining a couple of perfect images. [Flickr, Edemiya and Daily Mail via Reddit]

Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 11:58 AMIts just water, the water drop that is rebounded by the splash forms a lens, optics bends the light through the spherical lens making the map (upside down) behind the drop appear spherical and inverted.

Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 9:56 AMsince the light composing the image changes direction through the bulk of the drop, instead of just at the surface, it’s refraction.
Pretty awesome image.
