The Steve Jobs Action Figure Is Dead

In Icons, the company responsible for the freaky-awesome Steve Jobs action figure, is stopping production because of legal threats from Apple and Jobs’s family.

In a statement, Tandy Cheung, the Hong Kong businessman behind the doll, said:

“Though we still believe that we have not overstepped any legal boundaries, we have decided to completely stop the offer, production and sale of the Steve Jobs figurine out of our heartfelt sensitivity to the feelings of the Jobs family.”

One thing is certain: these dolls are now going to be super expensive. One is already for sale on eBay for $US2500; expect that figure to grow in the future. [PC World]

It’s got nothing to do with Apple’s legal threats.. it comes down to what I was saying when the original stories ran a while back.. his family and friends. A celebrity he may have been (still is) but he was still a husband, a father, a brother, a son, a best friend etc People need to respect that celebrities are people too and that their right to privacy, decency and respect don’t automatically get thrown out the door just because they are famous.

I disagree, becoming a celebrity means losing an automatic right to privacy. That’s why you don’t tend to see many out in public.
