We knew that Telstra’s first 4G phone would be the HTC Velocity 4G, but we didn’t know exactly when we could buy it or how much it would cost. Now we do!
The handset is all set to land through Telstra stores and partners next Tuesday January 24. It will be available for $0 up front on a $79 cap plan over 24 months, including $800 worth of calls and MMS, unlimited SMS and 2GB of data.
Telstra is also allowing customers to pre-purchase the handset and have it delivered to their door on January 24, rather than having to head outdoors to get one.
Now that we know all the details (4.5 inch touch screen, 1.5 GHz dual core processor, 8 megapixel camera) including price, who’s getting one?

January 19, 2012 at 9:14 AMI want a 4G mobile, though do not need another mobile contract. I read that this device will also be available on the $59 cap, with a $10 handset repayment.

January 19, 2012 at 10:43 AMI find it funny that Telstra chooses to show of the speed of their 4G network on a phone running sense 3.0 and with only a 1.2Ghz processor. (Sensation owner)

January 19, 2012 at 11:51 AMI wish they get the Lumia 900. It would be a first day purchase for me.

January 19, 2012 at 12:53 PMIt’s tempting, but I’d be interested in getting rid of the monthly repayments for the phone and having a shorter contract by paying some money for the phone up front.
It’s also interesting that this doesn’t have 700Mhz LTE, which is what we (should) be getting after the 2013 digital TV switch off. Which is why I think it’s important not to commit to 24 months at this stage.

January 19, 2012 at 2:56 PMNot sure why Telstra went through the effort of partnering up with HTC to custom build this thing. It’s obsolete right out of the gate.

January 21, 2012 at 3:06 PMCameron- You can choose to do this I think. I did it on my last contract. I paid half upfront then paid the rest over 12 months. Worked well :)
