Ruh-roh! This Hills Bus driver is in hot water after video of him texting while ferrying passengers down the M2 motorway hit national TV bulletins. According to the reports, his eyes are only the road about 25 per cent of the time throughout the two minute video. Take a look.
We’ve seen texting bus drivers crash in the past. So I’m not upset that NSW Transport has suspended his license. I’m thinking he’ll also lose his job. What say you?

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 9:00 AMIt’s a good reminder to people that this is not to be tolerated. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve been behind someone driving erratically only to find, upon stopping next to them at a set of lights, that they are texting on their phones.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 9:11 AMtalking on phones while driving is considered dangerous enough, texting should’ve lumped together with the penalty of drink driving

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 9:32 AMRaise your hand if you’ve been in a taxi in the same scenario! More than once even.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 9:47 AMIn China yes.. but that is a totally different ball game.. believe me. :)
I was in a taxi a couple of years back in the city of Wuhan (middle of China) and the taxi driver had the option of either going all the way down the end of the 6 lane main road.. or just slowly driving on to the wrong side of the road and edging his way across the multiple lanes of oncoming traffic, down the road a further 100m and pulling into the driveway… yup.. oncoming traffic is the preferred choice :)

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 9:57 AMMy heart goes out to the driver who would probably lost his job and his ability to pay his mobile internet bills because of this news coverage. It is sad how commercial TV has reduced themselves to crucifying ordinary people for the sake of news coverage.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 1:06 PMI wonder how sympathetic you’d be if he crashed into the back of your car or worse still, crashed and killed one of your loved ones?

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 4:40 PMSo CC, you’re concerned about some idiot who’s not paying attention to what he’s doing, which is transporting humans around in traffic?
With this level of utter contempt for the safety of his passengers(not to mention other road users), I hope like hell he DID lose his job. One less dangerous idiot on the road.
Nothing ordinary about this kind of behavior.

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 4:05 AMIm with cc. Poor guy had to be singled out. I think at least 50% of readers commenting on this page have used their phones while driving.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 11:12 AMHe should be fired. Texting while your driving your own vehicle is your choice, but when it’s your job to transport other people that’s not on.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 12:52 PMBoy, Channel Nine loves to over explain things. “He’s looking at the road 25% of the time, meaning he’s looking at the phone 75% of the time”. Phew, I never would’ve figured that out.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 4:19 PMIf you look closely, I reacon he’s looking up google maps. Probably doesn’t know the route he’s going. Still makes no difference whether he was using the phone or not though…

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 8:57 PMSeems a bit O.T.T. to go straight to the media. I wonder if the concerned passenger voiced his concerns to the driver and/or the bus company first.

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 3:46 AMpffft thats nothing!! due to the orientation of the steering wheel in busses, it is very easy for bus drivers to: do crosswords, read time/routemaps VERY intensly, and read the morning paper or a novel, all while actually driving. (ive had bus drivers do ALL of this (not all on the same trip lol) on busses ive been in. (they all work for !!! ADELAIDE METRO !!! , the most terrible bus service this country has to offer)

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 9:17 PMAt least his eyes were open. The bus driver I had this morning fell asleep at an intersection. After a very long pause I noticed he was unconscious and thought he may have had a heart attack or something, so I asked him if he was alright. Well, that woke him up out of his deep slumber! I responded to the effect of,”Omg you were asleep – that is so dangerous!”. ‘
Bus drivers have a duty of care for their passengers and whether it’s a mobile phone or falling asleep at the wheel, it should not be acceptable behaviour as it does compromise the safety of passengers.
Too bad I didn’t whip out my iphone and video it. Shouldn’t these kind of incidents be reportable to the police? I am glad at least we have the media, as these sort of incidents are too easily swept under the carpet via customer service agencies.
