Steam App Makes Spending Money Way Too Easy

Gizmodo AU

Like saving money? Then it’s probably best not to download the new Steam app for iOS and Android, which lets you not only chat with Steam friends, read the latest gaming news and browse groups and profiles, but will keep you informed on those awesome Steam sales.

The app is available now for iOS and Android users, even though the service itself is still in closed beta. Valve claims that it will add people who log in to their Steam account from the app regularly, so if you’re looking for a way to spend money from your phone, this is it.

It just goes to show how important the mobile experience is becoming for all types of communities. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some money to try not to spend…

Nice. Software publishers need to learn from Steam – their approach is reasonable and doesn’t have restrictions (like always on Internet connection). It has made it much easier to buy games and doesn’t treat you like a criminal but a valued customer every time you use it.

the only downside is that downloading and updating is very slow. there are ways to speed it up, but it should be that way from the start.

Slow? My client regularly downloads at 1.3MB per second – which is the maximum my connection can do.
Granted, I am on Internode and most of the time I’m connected to the Internode content server.

Only downside with steam is slow download about 3mb for me. Origin does 15mb per second if they fix this steam will be perfect.

Lol at being worried about taking an hour instead of 30 mins to download a 5GB+ game.

Big <3 for Steam, also http://www.humblebundle.com/ . I haven't bought a game on disc (except Starcraft II) in ages.
