Report: RIM Down To One BlackBerry 10 Handset

RIM’s last great hope, the QNX-based BlackBerry 10 handsets that would pull the company out of its Playbook-inspired funk? According to the latest rumour from BGR, you’d better make that “handset”. Because there’s only one left. And it’d better be good.

After cancelling the BB10 BlackBerry cult earlier this year, BlackBerry has now pulled the plug on the Milan, as well. Which, according to BGR, had actually been a BB7 handset the whole time.

So what does this mean? That RIM is banking a large part of its future on a single phone. A strategy that, yes, obviously works just fine for Apple. But for a company that’s on the ropes to go all in a phone — as recently shown off by The Verge — walks the line between ballsy and dangerously ill-conceived very, very tightly. What’s wors, we’ll have to wait until at least June to find out which it is. By then, let’s hope we still care. [BGR]

I don’t think that RIM will be able to pull themselves out of this one, unfortunately they have really lost their edge.
Producing a whole range of smart phones that don’t really change aside from the form factors, which aren’t that impressive anyways. They only thing they have going for them is the amount of control you can have with BES. Corporations love having that control over the device however, we are seeing a huge shift with the consumer market actually influencing the corporate market. CEO’s and people in higher positions are increasingly putting pressure on IT to use Apple and Android devices.
Looks like RIM is dead in the water, it will be sad to see them go down because that just means there is less innovation in the market again.
I just hope Apple buys them and launches an all-out nuclear war on Samsung. They just keep poking at Apple over and over buy copying and using all kinds of tactics to piss Apple off.
    /end of rant

haha sumsung would be your hero with a name like Gabriel.
Samsung refuse to innovate, instead they constantly copy and steal everything from Apple.
Even actors from tv commercials they steal…. I say, lets see Apple bend samsung over and insert a hand full of garden sand.

But Samsung gear looks so awesome when it’s in Apple’s shit? Apple need to get that stick out of their arse. Like it or not, Samsung plaster their name on their products, only an absolute retard would mix the devices up and the operating systems are nothing alike when they’re actually powered on. I went Android for widgets, a file manager and the overall customization of both apps and usability, which you’d never find on an Apple shiney.

Not to mention I’d rather pay more for a limited run item, rather than an artificially inflated price just so Apple can sit on their profits and screw retailers who have to sell their products if they want any customers at all because iPhones are so “cool.”

I think I finally get it. Its the Duke Nukem phone!

They seem to be wanting to kick ass and chew bubble gum; the problem is that very soon they will need to sell their shoes and see if they can get store credit for the gum.

If RIM bring out the phone in the photo, I would happily ditch WP7 in a heartbeat. That thing is pure science fiction, the kind of phone Capt Kirk would have. (iPhone is the kind of phone Capt Kirk’s mum might have.)

The phone in the picture is pretty much a RAZR (the new one), the os not so much though, unless they skin android.

at least RIM have their own OS. unliked htc, lg, samsung and most others who rely own googles (crap) os, android.

yes, its true, like it or not, rim and apple are the only ones brave enough to make their phones have a unique os.

Apples ios is based on opensource unix, and android is based on linux…and you forgot wp7 and memos and bada and symbian.

Having your own os is great, but as microsoft has demonstrated for decades against apple in the IT world getting your os on everyone elses product is key.
