Qualcomm Puts Quad-Core Processor In TV

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors have been a hallmark of mobile devices for the past few years. Not content with keeping the party in your pockets, the Snapdragon is coming to your TV, to the tune of 1.5GHz quad-core processor mightiness.

In addition to those four-cores, the Snapdragon S4 MPQ8064 also has Adreno 320 graphics. So, basically we’re talking about console-quality gaming, potentially, without the console. The architecture is built to work with Android, which means we’re likely to see these integrated with Google TV. We’ve seen a rash of Google TV products lately from LG, Sony and Vizio, and Android games have been taking great leaps and bounds lately. The idea of my TV (or streaming box or Blu-ray player) having the power to run that gives me the geek-vapours.
