Cars still have a long way to go before they reach the lofty heights set by science fiction films in the ’80s, but it’s good to know that Mercedes Benz is on the case. At CES last week the German auto company showed off its Dynamic & Intuitive Control Experience (DICE) control system, which could change the way we drive forever.
If it works.
The system recognises arm and hand movements to control everything from music to navigation on a HUD that covers the entire windshield. Well, that’s what’s supposed to happen, but as the team at Engadget discovered, the system is still very much in beta.
If it ever makes it to market, it’s supposed to be in terms of decades rather than years, so it really does still sit firmly in the science-fiction department…
