Lunchtime Deals: 11-Inch MacBook Air For $979

Gizmodo AU

Say what you will about Ruslan Kogan, the man knows how to sell. Today his company has announced that it is selling the 11-inch MacBook Air for just $979 plus delivery. Given that the Apple price for the same specced machine is $1099, even with a delivery fee is still works out significantly cheaper. Of course it’s sourced from overseas, so the power plug may not be the local Apple version, but Kogan are throwing a local power adapter in the box. [Kogan]

10% off at JB Hi-FI at the moment may be a better option for a locally sourced Mac of any variety.

Kogan has been slipping ever since the Christmas deliveries fiasco.. I’m sure he’ll bounce back eventually.. he’s that kind of resilient.. but yer.. ridiculously overpriced grey-import… the point of grey-importing is that you get it cheaper than the local prices.. you don’t mind that you might not get a local warranty or support because you are paying a lot less…

i think you guys need to stop posting as soon as you here the word SALE, and instead, go and see what everyone else is charging first.

this has happened multiple times with Kogan now.

Apple is pretty cool with their international warranties. I daresay these would be fine but the JB HiFi deal is much better. However with a refresh expected soon buying either of them would be a bad move.

Out of curiosity I checked the specs for the other Airs.

You only save about 70 dollars off apple’s RRP.

Once you factor shipping and the ‘cost’ of waiting for it versus picking it up immediately. (and as other have said jb and ds are doing it cheaper) its a wonder they are moving units at all!

The most interesting thing about this is that it may signal a refresh to the line is about to occur.

      Discrete Graphics Pleeeeease!

I really hope so! I am waiting for the Macbook Air to have decent graphics. Maybe in the next version????

Add an Nvidia or AMD graphics card, and the Macbook Air will be PERFECT.

Hmm as much as that would rule, I really doubt it – Apple are very adept at kneecapping the appropriate products so that they exist within their certain user-base realm – like, they see the Air as a sort of ‘travel’ computer for light work on the go or casual users, where more mobile power users would have to pay the big buxxx for the Pros. I dunno. But that would be cool. As much as I appreciate Apple products for their design and ‘user experience’ (what a wanky term hehe), the way they eke out their product lines is sometimes excruciating!

The only thing keeping me from buying the Macbook Air is Intel’s integrated graphics. I WANT NVIDIA OR AMD GRAPHICS! Can’t they fit in a small discrete processor inside that thin form factor?

I got my 11″ Mac air for that price I asked for a deal to get the Mac a dongle and office then I decided I didn’t want office so when the guy went to take the cost of office of the quote he deducted it off the cost of the Mac. Got the Mac and dongle for 950
