Lunchtime Deal: 2TB Seagate HDD For $65

Gizmodo AU

You can never, ever, ever have too much storage. So you should probably jump on this deal from daily deal site OurDeal today. It’s offering a 2TB Seagate external hard drive for $65, down from $159. Given the average cost of hard drives has gone up recently, this is probably as good a bargain as you’re likely to find on storage at the moment… [OurDeal via OzBargain]

Here are some reviews about this drive:
    http://ugc.seagate.com/7039/5a928cafc62df110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0a____/seagate-seagate-expansion-external-drives-reviews/reviews.htm

The reviews seem to be mixed. I have a Mac Book Pro and looking at some information on these drives, I believe the tools to troubleshoot this drive are windows only.
Further, these drives at NTFS partitioned which means that I need to format this in HFS format. And if the drive fails, I can’t use windows to fix the problem as windows cannot read HFS (if I am not mistaken)

I think I may pass this one. $65 for 2 TB is a good deal though.

managed to grab one after about 1400 had already sold. Was refreshing the page every few seconds and it was jumped by 30 each time. I’ll rip it apart and slot it into my machine, Hopefully it has a sata connection inside and not a stupid usb controller hard wired.

Just got an email from the ourdeal guys:
“Unfortunately on Friday it came to our attention that the product is not as our merchant advertised and as such we are issuing you with a full refund.”

They dont say exactly the reason, just the above. Was looking forward to getting one :(
