Canon gives “advanced amateurs” and professional photographers another reason to leave their DSLR at home with their rumoured new PowerShot G1X.
While photos aren’t available just yet, several details have leaked about the 14.3 megapixel point-and-shooter that includes a 1.5-inch CMOS sensor and a 4X optical zoom lens. An aperture range of f/2.5-16 and a new DIGIC 5 image processor means the G1X should be well suited to low-light conditions, while providing that lovely shallow depth of field effect.
For post-processing fanatics it includes 14-bit RAW file support allowing you to pull every last detail out of your shots, and parents should appreciate its “child-weighted face detection system” which we’ll hopefully have more details on later. Presumably it means the camera puts kids first when it comes to automatic focus and exposure settings. The G1X will also be a great video companion, shooting full 1080P clips and even compiling a Ken Burns style video slideshow of all your photos.
