Under The Hood: Intel Core i7 Processor Overclocked Past 5.6GHz

Gizmodo AU

This is amazing. An enthusiastic overclocker by the handle of “Hicookie” has taken the Intel Core i7 3930K processor and cranked it up past 5.6GHz using a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 motherboard. For stat fans, that’s the first motherboard to hit a 57x multiplier.

You won’t be getting these speeds on your own PC any time soon – Hicookie needed to drag the temp down to -70 to make it happen. While there is some contention about the fact he only used two cores and two threads, it’s still a spectacular effort that set a few records.

Amazing.

My $150 gigabyte Z68 and $200 2500k get to 4.5Ghz for a quarter of the price of that setup, with all cores/threads enabeled.
