Watch this nice snail. It slowly moves across the ocean floor — lah-di-lah-di-lah! — until it finds a sleeping fish three times its size. Does it say hello, Mr Fish, sorry to wake you up? No. It just opens its giant mouth and swallows it.
The. Horror.
Apparently, cone snails are one of the deadliest fish assassins on the ocean floor, despite being so slow and peaceful-looking. If it gets near a sleeping fish, it will release chemicals to paralyse it. Then it will open its mouth and literally stretch its body until it engulfs the whole thing, finally killing it using a venomous barb inside its body.
Those things are nasty mothers. [Fogonazos]

Friday, January 13, 2012 at 8:52 AMActually they shoot the venemous barb out like a harpoon and kill the fish. If you pick one up, some of them can get your with the barb and the toxin is capable of killing you.

Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10:37 AMNo, it’c called a Cone shell. If conch is used it means medium to large sea snail (not a species), and in actuality is more specifically used to refer to the actual (snail-less) shell.
