BlackBerry Playbook OS 2 Finally Turns The Playbook Into A Real Tablet

BlackBerry just announced Playbook OS 2, which finally makes the Playbook useful instead of the silly joke it was! The new OS, which really should have launched with the Playbook, adds email, calendar and contacts. Finally! From the company that brought email to your pocket, there’s email on their tablet.

The email app looks a lot like other landscape tablet email apps with a universal inbox and notification options. RIM is adding a better keyboard (with text prediction) and easier text formatting in the OS update, as well. The contacts app is a social hub with people’s information from Twitter and LinkedIn (haha, business!) being displayed in their contact card. The update is supposed to release in February 2012. Can this be added to a BES by itself? Can I get my corporate emails on this without being tethered to a Blackberry? Or is the client for POP/IMAP emails only?

From previous announcements, no it wont have BES support initially. You will need to use Blackberry Bridge for BES emails. Then I assume the built in email app will be for hotmail, gmail and exchange style email connectivity
