You Can Shoot Up The World In Google Maps Street View

I usually love me some FPS games but there’s something off putting about fake shooting up the real world in Google Maps Street View with an assault rifle. Try it out yourself, put a location Pool Worldwide and start shooting fake real people and things in Google Maps. Is it weird for you?

Why is it so disturbing? Is it the fact that these people exist in real life? Is it maybe hitting too close to home? Or am I just a little weirded out because there’s no blood spewing or structures being destroyed or awesome physics engine rendering realism or a punk arse 13-year-old kid screaming in my ear? Ah, yeah. That’s probably it. [Pool Worldwide via Kottke]

All I get is a Google Maps API error.

It’s disturbing because usually in a FPS you are placed in some kind of war/battle situation where it’s shoot or be shot. This is just shooting innocent people like some kind of psycho mass murderer. Seriously, who develops this sh*t?

    That’s just sick.
No wonder the ignorant masses claim that violent gaming creates violent real world offenders.
There’s always some psychologically unstable human reject who’ll get the idea to try this in real life after getting “bored” with the virtual version.

Don’t see what the fuss is about. If you missed “Shoot View” and want to experience being a renegade spy, check out Rogue Agent for iPhone.
