Here’s some cricket coverage even Giz can get behind (well, in a schadenfreude sort of way). As Australia came back from lunch to bowl against India today, this Channel 9 cameraman hit a helmet and stacked his Segway on live TV. So…apparently you can fall off a Segway, and who knew they had them at the cricket?
Also interesting is that the camera guy in question is no stranger to the spotlight: he’s none other than “Joe the cameraman” who back in 1999 confessed to the infamous “can’t bowl, can’t throw” sledge that some still believe was actually Shane Warne.
Either way, Joe’s OK after today’s spill – and if we could, we’d shout him a beer. [YouTube via ABC]

Friday, December 30, 2011 at 2:09 AMI always knew the original quote as “Can’t bat, can’t bowl, can’t field”
But now I think of it, you’re probably referring to the alleged comments made by that same cameraman some 12 years ago, that were originally attributed to Shane Warne?

Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 10:05 PMI missed this live, but when the returned to the coverage from the “Cricket Show” during the lunch break you could clearly hear Greg Chapel yelling at some one. He was saying “You promised me during lunch that that wouldn’t happened” over and over.

Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 3:38 AMThe new version of the Steadicam Segway, the Steadiseg, has safety fenders that wrap around the wheels to prevent this kind of accident. Thank goodness he was OK.

Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 4:06 PMWho the hell leaves a helmet on the cricket ground, bloody idiots.

Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 1:44 AMHelmets are very commonly left behind the wicketkeeper. Some grounds used to have a hole in the ground where they could be kept, but the plastic lid covering them was more dangerous (to players, no segways) than having a helmet there.

Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 6:07 PMIt’s for when someone is put into a fielding position ridiculously close to the batsman, “short leg”, “silly point”
I just love Haddin’s reaction lol.
