Facebook has decided Timeline is ready for the non-New Zealand population, and flipped the global switch: starting today, those still sans-Timeline “will receive a notification on their Profile if they want to ‘Get Timeline’ or they can visit www.facebook.com/about/timeline.”
It’s a stellar redesign, but today will mark a great global wave of complaining. Get ready for a lot of whiny status updates. Hit the comments to know if you’ve received the update, and how it’s going for you. [Facebook]

If you “get timeline” does that show other people’s timeline to you when viewing their profile, or does it let other people see a timeline on your profile?

Friday, December 16, 2011 at 9:17 AMThat I’ve seen, it activates it on your own account for yourself and others to view.
When viewing your own timeline, you’ll have access to pretty much every interaction you’ve ever had with Facebook.
When others view your timeline, they’ll be able to see everything they’re allowed to see (based of your existing permissions) in the new format.
If you’re viewing your friends profiles/timelines, you’ll only be able to see the new design if they’ve enabled it.
By the looks of things, the news feed stays exactly the same though.
Don’t quote me on the above, but thats how it looked from a quick 5 minute flickover while I’m at work.

Friday, December 16, 2011 at 9:12 AMI had to visit the link listed above for it to start working. Then it says you have till the 23rd December (7 days) to make any changes and edit what people can see before it goes live. Or you can publish straight away (which is what I did, as the info is really just the same as what’s listed on your profile now anyway). But so far I have not seen anyone else with it. I suspect about 7 days after facebook starts automatically prompting the majority of people to change to it, you will start seeing a lot more. I would assume after a while they will just force it on everyone, leaving everyone to mope around and make whiney statuses about the “new facebook”. Remember what they changed last time?? Yeah, me neither….

Friday, December 16, 2011 at 10:07 AMLoving it so far, a massive improvement on the current form. Really makes everything look more organized instead of a random flow of random items. Also reminds you of events or photos you may have completely forgotten about.
Best redesign yet.
