At a time when robots vacuum our floors and make love to our wives, isn’t it a bit backwards to drag razor blades across your face, aided by foamy lubricant and water? Electric razors are great — here’s the best.
Our pals at The Wirecutter put in some serious research to come up with the top of the battery-powered top, and stubble king Bryan Gardiner names the Braun’s Series 7 790cc as king:
Braun’s razors are also designed to last about 6 years before needing to be replaced, and with that in mind, $US200 is not that much.
The Braun Series 7 790cc also has the benefit of an advanced alcohol based cleaning, sanitizing system that charges the setup while it cleans and dries it when the cycle is done. Braun claims to have invented razor cleaning and also say that cleaning a razor in this way is 10x more hygienic than simply running a razor under the sink faucet (which you can also do). The alcohol also has the benefit of driving water away from the blades, extending sharpness and life. The cleaning solution that comes with the Braun is lemon scented and costs about $US60 a year if you shave and clean daily.
Your face will be clean, the razor will stay clean, and all will be well. If you think your face is worth $US200, thy electric sword awaits. [Wirecutter]

Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 9:14 AMAm I the only one whose face hairs all seem to grow in entirely different directions, thus ensuring that whatever direction I move my electric razor in, 97% of them get missed?
Drives me nuts.

Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 9:37 AMHaving used an electric shaver for all of my shaving life, I can tell you that your beard takes a couple of weeks or more to get conditioned to the shaver you are using. So no matter which one you use, it will feel like crap till you condition your beard. Plus electric shaving is much better for your skin, as it doesn’t take off a layer of your skin every time you use it. 40 years and my face is still smooth as a babies bum. As for paying $200.00, plus an extra $60.00 a year for cleaner, that’s just not necessary! I’ve been using the three disc Phiishavers for the most part and you can pick up a good one for around $100.00 probably less. Remember, any reasonably priced shaver will suffice if you give it time. Never spent more than three minutes shaving, ever!

Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 10:04 AMI don’t know where everybody gets off with this stuff about the Braun razor. I was given two razors ,one a Braun 7 and the other a Remington 4790 ( I think it sells for $39.00 at Walmart. The both give a good shave, but for me the Remington gives a closer shave in less time the the Braun. My old Braun 7000 series was a great razor, but since P&G bought them the price has gone up and the shave has gone down.

Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 5:34 PMI started with a Braun about 30 years ago, but since that died, it’s been 3 Philips razors for me. Having only shaved with a blade twice in my life, I don’t feel qualified to say whether it is better or not.

Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 9:30 AMI dont shave every day out of choice so when i do i start with my braun to get most off but it missess all the omnidirectional hairs on my neck. Then i follow up with el cheapo disposable 2blade razor, the 4+blade razors are way to big to get that little bit of hair on your moustache area under your nostrils. Ive used 3head phillips all types of Braun for years but i find either wet shave or wet and a braun to be best for me. PS Dont get fancy brauns with lcd displays… your battery runs down quicker also i have had the fancy cleaning braun one and never used the solution (3yrs) just tap hair out and i sometines rinse it under water…. still going strong
