Even though the Microsoft Metro UI update for Xbox 360 landed last week, it was always going to be a slightly longer wait for the ABC iView and SBS On Demand video streaming services. Well, part of that wait is over, with the SBS On Demand component now available.
Also launched today is the NineMSN video service and YouTube, although the wait for ABC iView continues. All the video services launched today will support some level of Kinect voice control as well.
I’m planning on having a play around with the new services tonight when I get home, but if anybody has access to their Xbox right now and wants to share their thoughts, please feel free…

Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 2:07 PMDo you still need to have the ridiculously expensive X-box live gold
membership to use these free services?

Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 2:14 PM$50 a year for xbox live is pretty cheap considering people pay $25 a day for a pack of smokes. It’s all relative really.

Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 2:23 PMIt’s actually $80 a year, if you are not careful and only ask for 1 month, they will bill you monthly for $10.95 ($131/ year)
It does not seem like much but when you are paying for mobile/ internet/ payTV/ phone line – it adds up. PS3 is free – I don’t mind having to pay but I just think they are asking too much.

Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 2:32 PMLooks like the spam filter ate my post.
If you shop around, you can get XBox Live Gold for $50: for example, you can get 12 months + 2 months of Gold from Ozgameshop for $50. I’d post the link, but the spam filter doesn’t want me to…

Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 2:43 PMIt’s pretty expensive compared to the price of using the same services on the PS3.

Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 11:16 AMi would pay three times as much just for the features that ps3 lack! even just one… party chat.. up to 8 people talking in a chat room all playing different games. Yeah you wouldn’t think it would be that hard to setup but Sony can’t seem to figure it out. Makes trying to setup games with friends a nightmare.

Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 3:03 PMThe “$50″ don’t include internet costs…… i-view from ABC is free on internode.

Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 12:34 PMMost people earn more than what a gold subscription costs in 3 hours work at their job. It is NOT expensive.

Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 2:25 PMIt is $50 a year if you know where to look.

Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 3:04 PMTell that to the chumps they buy the yearly DLC for Call of Duty because if they don’t they can no longer play it online.

Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 3:30 PMSeriously? I don’t have an xbox but have a ps3. do they both pull this shit?. Don’t play CoD anyway but that is pretty lame if they do.

Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 10:57 AMConsidering MW2 still has a strong online community, it’s a load of crap.

Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 4:00 AMNot mitigating the other above, er, discussions, I had a play with SBS On Demand this afternoon and came up disappointed. It currently seems half-baked, with numerous errors popping up. Give it a bit of time.

Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 8:12 AMI have to agree with Adam. SBS on demand is a steaming pile of garbage. Low res videos and a site design that M.C. Escher would find confusing.

Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 1:42 PMSBS ON DEMAND is in better shape than ninemsn.
SBS: HD, only one advert per show, good speed on DSL.
Nine: SD (woefully tiny image!) without ads, but fre……………..quent……………….lag……………..pau………..ses……………..wh…….ile………….pla……….yi…….ng, (Same connection!)
