Mugger Rejects Victims’ Non-iPhones

If you’re worried about getting your phone snatched on a dark sidewalk, here’s a top security tip: don’t own an iPhone. A spat of attempted phone-jackings at Columbia University have one thing in common: thugs don’t want your Android.

New York’s NBC 4 reports the case of this particularly picky thieves, one of which is depicted above, on the prowl for iOS devices:

Twice at 526 114th St., and once at 556 114th St., the suspects demanded the victims hand over their iPhones, police said.

The first victim complied, but the second only had a Droid, according to police. The thieves apparently didn’t want a Droid — so they took cash instead.

Cash they used to buy an iPhone, I guess. I mean, what are they going to do with that Droid? It can’t even run Instagram. Apparently, the smartphone crime rejection is having a rough effect on the typically thick-skinned Ivy Leaguers: “It’s insulting they don’t want my BlackBerry,” said a female student.

I can understand a criminal not being able to navigate MOTOBLUR, but not even taking a BlackBerry? You could at least use it to bludgeon your next victim with. [NBC 4 via MaxPC]
