Lunchtime Deals: Huge Grays Online TV And PC Auction

Gizmodo AU

Grays Online doesn’t quite have the same massive userbase as eBay, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t bargains to be had. The auction site has just launched a $5 million PC and TV sale, with auctions starting at $9 and ending every day for the next couple of weeks. Lots of bargain potential here if you’re diligent! They always have these same sales and people rarely get that good a deal. I see it time and time again with people forgetting the 15% Grays fee so they actually pay more than retail and a lot of the time that is for factory re-conditioned goods. Once you get the item if there is a problem with it (and I have experienced this) you have a short warranty and it’s a pain to send back as you have to ship it to them at your cost.

Don’t forget the 15% “Buyer’s Premium” you pay for the privilege of using their auction site.

Just know your pricing is the key, same as anything. I buy a fair bit from them, but have a pricepoint I won’t go above. BTW I bought a no name TV awhile ago that got a fault- I didn’t have to pay for returning it?? Think that’s wrong have returned plenty before never charged for it?

I think Chris must work for a competitor… man that guy is way off the mark with his facts…

I’ve been using Grays for around 5 years (back on the old site) and although I find the shipping costs quite high for a company of it’s size, I’d say most things go for around half of retail, and some come with a normal warranty period.

I’ve had Sony camera’s that I bought that had issues and I contacted them and they where replaced (one replaced, one money back) and the process was quite simple and Grays paid the postage BOTH ways (not sure why Chris had to pay postage… I didn’t!)

I’d say this is the best deal website in Australia, better than dodgey eBay that’s for sure! For years I’ve bought all of my computers on grays (dell,hp) and they are generally around 30-50% off retail even after the hefty 15% buyers premium… at least they tell you all the costs upfront, so like anything you need to do your research.

And very little on the site is reconditioned, other than TV’s and computers and at least (unlike eBay) they are honest enough to tell you the faults before you bid…

Anyway it’s great value IMHO… sounds like Chris didn’t do his research, nor looked at the final price when bidding (which shows you the total with all the charges and a total)… guess some people aren’t happy with great deals!

No I don’t work for a compeditor. Your statement is entirely correct and I suggest you must work for Grays going on that.

I have been using Grays for about the same time I know what I am talking about.

I bought a DVD player from them, reconditioned. The thing would not play DVD’s half the time it just shuddered, I rang Grays and they wanted me to send it back to them, they also had this documented.

You are incorrect about prices, I said a lot of times people pay more than retail. I have watched auctions finish with reconditioned TV’s selling for 200 less than retail and then the 15% buyers premium is on top.
Look at that sale now, prices are already high.

Also your comment that very little is recondtioned, actually no that’s not true. Most of the items from this sale are recondtioned so again you are wrong.

I did my research Dawsei, maybe you should do yours before you jump in attacking people.

A lot of what you say is very true, they do tell you about the issues with products if reconditioned (marks etc) how can they know that the problem may have not happened when being reconditioned so the repair process did not find the fault.
You can find good items and good prices but in general it is cheaper to shop around for a new item than use grays.

So Dawsei I am not way off the mark, I know what I am talking about, it have been using Grays for enough years to know how to take advantage of their system, these advertised deals are not it. It’s the side auctions that are not advertised that slip past the masses is where you find the great bargins.

In fact they advertise 80% off, it’s an auction. False advertising unless it’s a fixed price.

Hey Chris you quoted the Sony warranty not the Samsung, you also only quoted the return to base warranty (where winner pays return)- which is not relevant to the TV’s in the sales (TV’s are Sony service centre warranty- no cost mentioned)? Either missquoted or mischievous.
