Yesterday we reported how Wikileaks has uncovered a global network of surveillance companies for hire. Now Assange is telling it like it is.
Talking at a press conference, which you can watch here, he explained that “the reality is intelligence contractors are selling, right now, to countries across the world, mass surveillance systems for [iPhone, Blackberry and Gmail].”
He’s right: we probably are all screwed. Keep in touch with the latest on the big privacy story of the moment, Carrier IQ, here. [The Guardian; Image: New Media Days]

Monday, December 5, 2011 at 7:31 AMThe only reason to worry about this is if your doing something wrong! Mass commnication and tracking is something that will join us all together as Tech pushs forward to the next Gen. Only people looking to blame someone or something for there lifes problems could see this as a issue.
I would also point out, he makes a living on yes providing “truth” but sometimes, Ignoress is bliss!

Monday, December 5, 2011 at 8:02 PMYup – Assange isn’t even the only one to expose US state secrets. The Danes released a TON of them in revenge for setting up CIA operatives in various exchange positions across Denmark and we got off scott-free…they took their licks because they knew that we’d been watching them watch us for almost 10 years.

Monday, December 5, 2011 at 10:25 AMI find the whole argument that unless you do something wrong or have something to hide – you don’t have to worry about anyone out there having access to all your details and activities. It’s like the argument from those pro the Australian Christian Lobby mandatory internet filter – apparently if you’re against the filter, you’re someone who likes child porn.
Until such times as governments act on Identity Theft (other than the current response of forcing the victim to do all the work to clear their name and debts and trying to get their credit rating back), the idea that anyone out there with a business can pay to get all your details is scary.

Monday, December 5, 2011 at 11:25 AMI keep reading stories about “Carrier IQ” but never any mention of WP7. Does this mean it’s a non-issue for us WP7 users? :–P
