Fresh from the news that it’s buying Internode, iiNet’s is already teasing its upcoming hardware. Simon Watt from the company’s Lab team says early 2012 will see a product that a “few wireless modem owners will find it very interesting.” (These sketches labelled Bob3 accompany his post). Then he mentions a “super-secret new product”…
While it’s still a while away yet, the iiNet Labs team has converged upon the iiNet head office in Subiaco, WA to discuss our big release in 2012. Something this big requires all hands on deck.
With technology moving faster than the speed of light, this new product will need to make sure all of your needs are covered. Nevertheless, we’ve been consulting our crystal ball back at the iiNet Labs to make it happen.
Here’s a hint though – you’ll be connected to your home in more ways than ever when you get your hands on it.
Interesting indeed. Have any suggestions for him?

As for Bob3, I’m interested to see what they come up with. After a few delays, the Bob2 combo modem finally arrived in July. Immediately apparent was its updated design, new built-in answering machine and full colour handset screen. Bob2 is an ADSL2+ modem, router with 802.11n Wi-Fi, and handles VoIP. Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 6:06 PMBe better if additional handsets weren’t $90. I got a 2 handset regular phone with answering machine for $99 a year ago!
+1 Denis NAS and future proofing FTW. I may not even bitch about the $90 for additional handsets then.

Friday, December 30, 2011 at 12:58 PMIInet labs, LOL. iinet will release yet another OEM product with some custom paint, mark my words. I have NEVER not been able to figure out what an ‘iinet labs” device was. Perhaps this time they might actually have a custom case injection molded for a few bucks in china. Maybe hack the firmware a little. Maybe. IInet are one thing : efficient bottom feeders on the profitable bits of regulated pseudo-competition with good customer service and marketing. But hey, if the government decides to screw some companies at the expense of others at the behest of brain-dead ecomonists and thier wacky “science”, who are we to complain when smart people make easy money off that?-)
