iiNet Cuts The Price Of FetchTV

Gizmodo AU

iiNet has a long history of dropping prices on broadband plans while raising bundled data allowances, so it shouldn’t really surprise us that the ISP has cut the price of its FetchTV offerings by up to a third. Although part of us can’t help but wonder if it’s a reaction to disappointing takeup…

As of today, the FetchTV starter package has dropped for $14.95 a month to $10 a month, while the $29.95 a month entertainment package has dropped to $20 a month. The price cut applies to both current customers and new customers, so nobody misses out on the savings.

With the recently launched iPhone app, FetchTV is looking more and more like a viable contender to Foxtel and T-Box. This price cut will certainly help as well.

How can it be viable contender to Foxtel when it as no sports channels? Setanta Sports when it eventually becomes available still won’t quite cut it. Well if you love soccer then maybe, but SBS has pretty top coverage of that as it is.

Because there are plenty of us who don’t give a S%&T about sport. I am happy with docos and movies thanks. IMO this is an awesome deal, you also have to remember that you get a sweet DVR as well.

+1 Indeed. Unless it’s extreme sports of course.. snowboarding to some sweet tunes.. or something like that.. that I can handle.. but not boring old kicking and passing the ball around. I’ve been to matches/games in person and had a good time but I can’t think of anything more boring than watching it on TV.

NBA, EPL and up to the day tv shows from america would be the only reason to consider it otherwise the iinet plan you are on should be sufficent to keep you in hulu or netflix or torrent goodness

I cut my cable (TV) a couple of months ago because Foxtel was just such bad value for money. I’m happy to spend $50 – $80 per mth on good TV content but there doesn’t seem to be any decent options. However, I have just been back to the FetchTV site and I must say that i am close to going with Fetch (I’m with Optus cable). I think the basic Package plus a couple of add-ons would come to about $50/mth and provide reasonably good value for money. But Fetch, can you please put a decent browser in your box. If it has one, let people know, it might be a deal changer for some.

I’m still waiting for IP Multicast on NBN to become available before I can get FetchTV full. Besides, Node dropped their prices weeks ago, I’d say iiNet is merely following suit. Or did you forget to check on that?

I enjoy my fetch TV. So happy they cut the price too. SPORTS is not a big issue for my household and the channels on offer (besides the free to air HD ones) are decent enough. Then there is the movies, the main reason I got fetch in the first place, the free range are old classics and the like and the newbies are cheaper than me making my way down to the local Video store (do we still call them that?) to rent.

except you cant watch a movie until it has fully loaded so not so ‘on demand’
and coupled with BoB you get an ordinary internet/entertainment experience..

        haha nice name calling fella.
i work in IT and i dont gamble. anyways.. i prefer to rip down what i want when i want. foxtel was a good option minus the ads.. spending 100 plus a month for ads everywhere isnt ideal..
how about you learn to type more than a sentence next time little guy

this is awesome news… i had foxtel for over 5 years and recently made the move to fetch tv… the only thing i miss is the lifestyle channel, its got everything else i could need and the additional functionality of being able to download movies and tv shows is something i never had with foxtel (i dont have a phone line). overall, very very happy with this news!

While I like sports myself.. foxtels sport channels are pretty average imo.

Plus all the important sports are on free to air at good times so really can do without foxtel.

Im more worried about it hogging all the bandwidth in the house

fetch needs a couple more linear channels – movies especially. Movie Network?
