A Single Text Can Destroy Windows Phone’s Messaging App

You had better hope the gent who discovered this WinPho security exploit is the only one who knows how to do it: this video shows just how easy it is to permanently ruin a WP7 handset.

The vid, narrated by a WinRumors reader who discovered the flaw, shows how one message will force a Mango device to reset, at which point the messaging app will no longer launch. The messaging app, being arguably the greatest and certainly one of the most used features on the phone, is not something you want deactivated. WinRumors says they’re working with Microsoft to get the bug reported and patched. Phew. [WinRumors via TechCrunch]

That would still be a pain in the ass to do every time some dick sends you an SMS

It seems you have forgotten that people who don’t read gizmodo could be affected by this. Sure you can reload the OS, but someone else would just be completely left in the dark.

Still doesn’t change the fact that you *can* fix it and it isn’t PERMANENTLY ruined. Over-exaggeration.
