Remembering to pack your phone’s charger while travelling is even more important than clean underwear these days. And with a few subtle chirps, the Perch promises to remind you to pack your most important of cables.
It looks like a power adaptor, but the Perch is designed to sit in-between your charger and an outlet, reminding you to take your cable once a charging device has been disconnected. Kind of like the alarms at an ATM reminding you to take your bank card.
For what it does the Perch seems unreasonably large, particularly as it’s targeted at travellers who typically prefer more compact accessories. But its size probably accounts for its under $US10 price tag, which is considerably cheaper than replacing a forgotten charger. For that price I’d probably buy two to ensure I never forget to pack my Perch either. [Gizmofusion via Ubergizmo]

Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 8:59 AMHave I just been transported through a time-warp? I haven’t needed a phone charger for at least 5 years, just a USB cable. Even before everyone in the world but Apple standardized on micro-USB, my phone always came with a USB data cable that also worked to recharge it.

Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 9:55 AMYour typical USB port provides 500mA of current, where as a typical phone charger will give anywhere between 750 to 1500 mA. I’ll take a mains charger over USB any day hands down thanks.

Sunday, January 1, 2012 at 12:17 PMWhy? I put it on charge while I work and it is always fully charged when I need it. Why cart around a stupid charger when you are traveling, just so your phone can be fully charged an hour after you go to sleep, instead of an hour before you get up? As long as it’s charged when I need it, that’s all I care about. Reducing the krap I need to cart around the world with me is way more important – one adapter, one PSU for my laptop and everything else – phone, modem and ZuneHD – from the laptop itself. It is perfect.

Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 12:04 PMGood idea but… add a couple of USB charging ports in it as well. Purchased a double adaptor with 2 USB connectors from disk smith before Christmas for $20.

Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 12:13 PMI’ve had so many phones with MicroUSB that I have more than enough of those cables. Not to mention other devices that use it. I have one at work to keep my phone charged during the day, one attached to my Computer at home, one in my laptop bag, one in my car.
The only place my Mains charger sits is next to my bed…mainly because I don’t have a USB port there.

Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 1:24 PMSo either im missing something or this is stupid
It chirps when i’ve unplugged the phone from the charger so when im not charging it itll keep on chirping until i unplug the device, so it could be chirping 14 hours a day if you had the phone charging 8hours while sleeping.
If you only used it while traveling, i still see a similar issue with it chirping while your not there or not charging.

Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 7:13 AMhello Tim, it perches to remind you to unplug those wires after you disconnect. However understanding you will use your charger at home and some instances will simply leave your charger in the wall. We have added a HOME and AWAY mode to disarm the perch. The moment you take your wires perch auto switched to AWAY assuming you are traveling with your charger
Hope this answers your question
