You know in The Temple of Doom when the mine cart’s brake gives out and obviously everyone is going to shoot out the side of a mountain and die? This is sort of that, except on purpose and in Austria.
What we have here is a single-pipe alpine coaster in Mieders, Austria, and our hero has chosen to not use his brakes at all. Though the ride is normally not all that intense, the out-of-control-no-slowing-me-down version is, um, less so. We’ve seen similar alpine coasters before, but this one strikes us as especially nuts, being a single track, being bereft of any safety netting, and voluntarily brakeless. Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 7:26 PMalthough to be fair, on those toboggan tracks if you don’t use the brakes you *will* flip off the track and pwn yourself in the face

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 2:12 PMI have done one of these before that was on a cement luge track instead of a rail. Similar idea though and optional breaking. It was the most terrifying thing I have ever done. I swear to you that for some of the corneres if I haddn’t breaked I would have flipped off. The banks for the turns didn’t extend much past the turn so every time you had to hope you would be far enough down the wall before it ended or risk dying.
It was awsome but I don’t need to do it again any time soon.

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 3:07 PMYou can flip off some alpine slides, also crash into stationary ones up ahead. I know a guy who did just that, and headbutted the brake lever and depressed his skull. They need to peel his face back to fix it, stitches ear to ear..

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 4:25 PMThe cars are attached to a rail and drivers wear a seatbelt so they can’t crash it (aside from hitting other cars) or fall off… why do you need brakes? Looks like fun but I fail to see the danger element.

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 6:01 PMsurely he had to be strapped in for that… if not im sure they would have had customise the seat to make room for his cojones.
