I’ve seen white sharks a million times on TV, but I’ve never appreciated their sheer size until this photo, part of the National Geographic’s Photo Contest 2011. It’s a beautiful photo, as are many other entries.
The contest hasn’t been decided yet. You still have time to participate. Send your photo before November 30 to National Geographic Photo Contest 2011.

Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 9:59 AMI went Shark diving with the great whites in Cape Town earlier this year (in a cage obviously). They are magnificently scary creatures.
Never got a photo that good though.

Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 10:43 AMYou have to be wary of depth of field here, it’s very hard to determine distances under water. Still, i would not be out of that cage, bloody idiots.

Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 1:14 PMHave asked for a Great White diving experience for an upcoming birthday – apparently the family have already started selling assets to afford it.. I could fly to South Africa and have a 4 day diving experience for the cost of doing the same thing (and that’s just being on the boat) in South Australia.
And people wonder why tourists are going to other countries.

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 7:56 AMIt’s not Photoshopped but the shark is forward of the dive cage (you can see by the direction the divers are looking). So it’s probably not as big as it initially looks. Still wouldn’t get me down there though…
