Steampunk Predator Statue Is Scary (And Scary Expensive)

Gizmodo AU

I’m all for recycling, but recycling Predators? That seems dangerous. Thankfully, this is only a statue of a Predator, made from recycled metal. That means it isn’t all that light — or that cheap.

Want your very own heavy metal Predator? It’s been listed on Etsy, shipping out of Thailand for $US6,700. Shipping is extra unless you happen to be in Thailand, and with a stated weight of approximately 500kg, I’ve got this feeling it won’t be cheap. Also, what if it’s not a statue, but a Predator that’s become very good at stalking… and waiting.. until its prey comes near? [Etsy via ThisIsWhyImBroke]

I swear I’ve seen this guy around the place before.

Must’ve been another just like him.

There used to be one on the gold coast as well, at least 8 foot high, the detail in it is impressive to say the least, maybe it’s touring the country.. hunting.

I saw this on display in a shopping centre in Phuket. It’s pretty awesome. There was a steampunk Alien with it as well.

Are you talking about the place downstairs in the shopping complex? I know the one you’re talking about. They were awesome.

I’ve purchased one of these – albeit a 2ft version – in Thailand about 10 years ago. Cost me around $100. A few years later I found a shop above an eyeware store in Elizabath St selling the same ones from the same guy. It’s been sitting at my parents place for 10 years. 2 weeks ago when I went over to visit them, I discovered – to my HORROR – that dad had decided to paint the the arms and legs chrome, the skull and mouth BRIGHT RED, and the eyes… BLUE. What was a bit of a collectors item is now ruined. Serves me right for leaving there I supposed. Oh yeah… my dad is a heavy drinker.

you can use acetone to strip it back to bare metal. If you want something lighter soak it in dettol or simple green and scrub it with a toothbrush.

You can buy paint stripper you know? Then you’ll have to get the rust off. As for collectors item well I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder…
